Dogs, Debates & DIYs: Summer at GJPS ☀️

🥵 The Heat Debate: Walk or Don’t Walk?

Every time the temperature soars, the same old debate fires up — should dog walkers be out in the heat? We hear it all: “Dogs still need their exercise!” vs “It’s far too hot to be dragging them round!”

At GJPS, we’re all for a good walk — but never at the expense of a dog’s wellbeing. Heatstroke, burnt paws, and dehydration are very real risks. So no, we don’t do full walks when it’s sweltering. But we don’t just leave dogs hanging either.

Instead, we get creative: shaded garden visits, sniffy enrichment games, splashy water play, frozen treat fun — all the good stuff to keep them stimulated and safe while their owners are out.

We’d love to hear how you handle hot weather with your dogs — drop us a message or let us know on socials!

🐾 River Days with Beau

One of the highlights this week came from Alex’s solo stroll with the beautiful Beau. They headed down to the River Dene on a perfect sunny day, where Beau made the most of every splash and sniff.

He bounced in and out of the water, totally in his element — joyful, curious, and absolutely living his best life. A reminder that sometimes, the best moments happen when you slow things down and just let dogs be dogs.

Have a favourite local spot your dog loves? We’re always on the lookout for peaceful, pup-approved places — tell us your go-to!

🧊 DIY Dog Toy with a Personal Touch

DIY Dog Toy

We absolutely love this creative idea from @LantaAnimalWelfare! Turning your old shirts into dog toys is not only a fun and simple craft—it’s a brilliant way to upcycle while supporting your pup's wellbeing.

The best part? Your scent makes the toy extra comforting, especially for new dogs or puppies settling into a new home. Want to take it further?

  • Pop it in the freezer for a cool-down treat

  • Add a few treats inside for a sniffy enrichment activity

Tried this at home? Tag us in your DIY dog toy creations — we’d love to see your pups in action!

🎉 Dog Birthday Parties: Worth It or Over the Top?

AI generated image of a dog enjoying his birthday party with banners balloons a party hat on and dog cake and treats

A recent Independent article sparked a fun debate: are dog birthday parties a joyful way to celebrate our furry friends… or a step too far?

Some say:

“Worth every penny” – they’re part of the family, after all! Others feel it’s: “A bit OTT” – pets might not care about party hats and decorations.

What do you think? Would you love to see us host dog birthday parties? Or are they best left to Instagram?

Would you come to a doggy birthday bash if we hosted one? Vote in our story on Instagram or drop a comment below!
